BARANGAY SAN NICOLAS PROJECT MARKS STEP TOWARD SAFER, FLOOD-FREE COMMUNITY

BY TEODORA MARTINEZ

In Barangay San Nicolas, City of San Fernando, Pampanga hope is literally paving its way forward as a long-awaited road improvement project finally breaks ground. For many residents of Sitio Bulusan, the sight of heavy equipment and engineers marks the beginning of safer, more accessible roads and a future less burdened by floods.

The Php3.98 million project, officially launched this year, is more than just a construction milestone; it represents the local government’s commitment to building resilient communities. Led by Governor Dennis "Delta" Pineda, Vice Governor Lilia "Nanay" Pineda, and other provincial officials, the initiative aims to raise the road by an average of 60 centimeters across 204.7 meters. Along with this elevation, the drainage system will be rehabilitated to prevent the frequent flooding that plagues the area during heavy rains.  “For the first time, we can look forward to a rainy season without fear of floods,” shared resident Tany David. “No more slipping, no more flooded pathways, it’s a huge relief.” Provincial Engineer Noli Pangan explained that the improvements will ease water flow and enhance daily mobility for residents, many of whom rely on the road for school, work, and business.
