Salamat, PRRD

Less than a week before he steps down, supporters held a thanksgiving party for President Rodrigo Roa Duterte at the Quirino Grandstand in Manila on Sunday, June 26.

Entitled “Salamat, PRRD,” the event featured performances from Andrew E, Freddie Aguilar, Isay Alvarez, Jed Madela, Martin Never, Robert Seña, JImmy Bondoc and more.

Thousands flocked to the venue as early as noon in anticipation of the program which began around 4 PM. President Duterte appeared around 6 PM and spoke briefly to thank his supporters.

Throughout his presidency, Duterte remained a hugely popular yet polarizing figure, with supporters staunchly defending him, and non-supporters criticizing him for his shortcomings.

Among the highlights of his six year-term was the War on Drugs which made dent in the drug trade but was largely criticized by human rights groups for deaths associated with it.

The “Build, Build, Build” (BBB) Program was also a centerpiece of the Duterte administration, which resulted in the completion of 12 out of 119 Flagship BBB projects.
