Join us in marking World Rabies Day on September 28, as we shed light on a critical issue. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), a staggering 59,000 people lose their lives to rabies annually, with a startling 97% of these cases transmitted by dogs.
In the Philippines, where the battle against rabies rages on, a collaborative effort between the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the Department of Health (DOH), and the Department of Agriculture – Bureau of Animal Industry (DA-BAI) has rallied over 60 local government units (LGUs) across 11 regions. Their mission? To strive for a future where our nation is rabies-free by 2030.
Currently, the Philippines records at least 200 rabies-related deaths each year, with over one million Filipinos seeking emergency treatment due to animal bites. Together, we can make a significant impact by advocating for responsible pet ownership, spreading awareness, and supporting these vital initiatives. Let's work towards a safer, rabies-free Philippines.
